The mushrooms we can see with our eyes are actually the "fruitbodies"
of microscopic fungi which grow underground or lie buried in trees or other
decaying materials on which they depend for their parasitic existence.
Some are good to eat, others are deadly poison. All are fascinating to
look at, and many have mysterious shapes and strange colors, which may be
reflected in their names and explain their importance in ancient folklore.
This pack of playing cards shows 54 different mushrooms, beautifully
illustrated by artist John Denaro, and will delight anyone interested in
nature and the diversity of its life forms.
These pictures are just a random sampling from the deck.
